BREATH WORK
(FEEDING THE EMOTIONAL BODY)
Breath is a food. Iin many Eastern and Middle Eastern cultures, the
manipulation of the breath is a science. Ecstatic and joyous feelings are created
by breathing in definite patterns and thereby energizing certain areas of subtler
bodies of feeling and thought. IN the
Taoist tradition the breath is directed through the meridian channels while in
India the twin channels are seen entwining up the spine like a caduceus,
connecting swirling etheric energy centers like galaxies, ascending up the
body.
The common thread in these beliefs is that
subtle energy in the breath can be directed with the mind to different channels
and energy centers.
In the west a emotional therapy pioneer
Wilhelm Reich found that a conscious use of certain breath combined with
physical or verbal therapy can bring about deep catharsis releasing energy
centers from self imposed ”emotional malnutrition”. IN this session we will explore the “Reichian” release breath to cleanse
unwanted and unconscious tension,
then apply the various yoga and Taoist breathingexercises to build and activate the feeling body.
